QRM
Within the range of ideas of Lean a school of thought has arisen under the name of Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM). The principles of QRM are aimed to shorten the integral throughput time of all production and office work. QRM is particularly suited for companies with customer order production, having a great variety in number of orders and order quantities.
The mastermind of QRM is the American professor
Rajan Suri
of the University of Wisconsin. For BOSCH Hinges the implementation of QRM means a further shortening of delivery times and improvement of delivery reliability.
One of the pillars within of QRM is the production order guiding system Polca, developed by Suri. POLCA stands for Paired-cell Overlapping Loops of Cards with Authorization. The 2 coloured Polca cards are a variety to Kanban, suited for companies like BOSCH Hinges, who produce client specific products (like bespoke hinges) in great variety.
Since October 15th 2007 BOSCH Hinges has switched to the system of POLCA.

In The Netherlands BOSCH Hinges is the first company to have the POLCA implemented. Implement. A preparation period of 3 months has preceded the introduction.
