De Brekr, an electric moped designed in the Achterhoek, won the public award at the Dutch Design Week last week. For this innovative model the designers needed customization. BOSCH Hinges therefore went to work with a special custom hinge.
Custom hinges for the Brekr: ‘Good Industrial Design’
Last week one of our customers won the public award at the Dutch Design Week which took place from 19-27 October. The ‘Brekr’, an electric moped designed in the Achterhoek, received the award for ‘Good Industrial Design’ in Eindhoven, after it had already been nominated for the ‘Special Award for Originality’.
For such an innovative design, the Brekr naturally needs customized hinges. That’s why BOSCH Hinges is working on a special hinge to raise the saddle. The hinge needs a blockage so that it can open far enough to get to the batteries, but not so far that it will hit something else.
The response so far has been great, according to Niels Willems, who designed de Brekr together with Jasper Hagedoorn, designer Ivo Roos and engineer Daniel ter Braak. “People could subscribe to a waiting list as of last month, but we are already over a hundred. The response rate is high.”
Parts from all over the world, but custom hinge from around the corner
The Brekr is composed of parts that are made all over the world. So for the real customization they keep it closer to home, with the choice for BOSCH Hinges.
The production of the electric moped will start in January 2020. The model still needs to be approved by the RDW.
